Weather and the ability/inability to work

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I find it mighty hard to hide away under books/behind my computer screen when the sun is shining and it’s a balmy 20C outside. In other words, I didn’t get much done this weekend. Nope, this week is definitely going to involve catch-up scrambling as I try and make up for lost time. But, ooooh! Aren’t we impossibly excited about summer’s immanent arrival?

The one thing I’ve been hearing again and again is about how wonderful Kingston is in the summer (have I already written about this?) I feel like every time I turn around someone is telling me how leaving this fair city during the balmiest months would be a terrible mistake. Summer, I am told, is the reason for persevering when Kingston’s three decent coffee shops start to lose their appeal (hmmm. where shall I go for coffee today? Oh…right…). That’s because (rumour has it) summer is when the undergraduates (charming though they be) take their Ugg boots and go away.

(whoops – I got off-track).

What I was stressing was the gloriousness of this past (long) weekend. I hope everyone got outside and took suitable advantage. I escaped to near Peterborough for a visit with one set of parental-figures. While there, I managed to squeeze in a glorious walk at Petroglyphs Provincial Park. Although the park wasn’t open yet (turns out park season doesn’t start til May) my friends and I walked in and helped ourselves to a hiking trail. Here’s a picture:

So, even though it’s tempting to think you should be chained to your desk at this time of year, trying desperately to pound out those final papers (yep, I’ve got two to write), it’s important to take advantage of the sun when we can get it. After all, the vitamin D is good for our little brains and spirits (and hell, I don’t know about the rest of you, but at this point in the year my spirits can take all the boosting they can get).

I’m DETERMINED to get some real work done today… (but uh oh- the sun has just come out! maybe I’ll just go for a quick walk first…)
