Getting Away Again…

Good morning, fair readers!

I managed to sneak out of town again this weekend. I went to Ottawa this time — a friend was driving there anyway, and I figured a little road-tripping couldn’t hurt the ol’ battered spirits. And indeed, I wasn’t wrong. The road trip/scene-change did the trick. I’m feeling a little more lively today than I was towards the end of last week.

Today’s going to be another big mish-mash of reading and class-attending. I sit in on the Film 110 lecture on Monday morning (the class I serve as a TA for) and then hold my hour-long office hours (nobody has come by to see me for weeks now, so I don’t anticipate today being any different), grab a quick bit, and then head to my three-hour seminar, New Media Cultures, which is taught by Martin Hand. It’s an excellent class, but it’s kind of stressing me out at the moment. Here’s why: I have to give a presentation next week.

Now, I am not NORMALLY particularly petrified by the idea of doing a presentation. Interestingly, though, I’ve been procrastinating on this one like crazy. They’ve been going on for weeks already- meaning I have had to sit through a whack of interesting talks, all the while knowing that MY presentation date (next Monday) is rapidly approaching. But here’s the thing: for some reason, I can’t seem to figure out what, exactly, I should present on. But rather than just figuring something out, I’ve been putting it off, and putting it off… I think, on some level, I keep hoping that if I ignore it for long enough, the presentation will somehow slip away and stop bugging me. I’ll be released from my presenting duties and I won’t have to come up with a topic or make up tidy little Power Point slides (speaking of which, does anyone ever dare do a presentation WITHOUT power point these days? Dare me to try?) or risk making a fool of myself in front of a group of people I don’t know very well.

I did make a TEENY bit of progress at the library yesterday when I managed to find a stack of relevant books and tote them home with me. Now I’ve just to to read ’em. Hrmph.

If the state of this desk is anything, it’s going to be a heck of a week.
